Youth and Family

Faith Formation Minister

A life-long member of Holy Trinity, Celia Sexton, Chancel Choir Director, is continuing the church's legacy of fine sacred music that has touched her life, her family, and so many others in the community. She performs such duties as directing the Chancel Choir and Jr. & Sr. High Youth Singers, recruiting for these choirs, as well as music for funerals and assisting with special services. She works closely with Organist David Lail and Music Minister Jo Carol Thomason, while all three work together in consultation with the worship and music committee and the pastors. “The whole staff works well together to implement the church’s mission to ‘Celebrate, Invite, Equip, Serve’,” Celia notes. “The music program at Holy Trinity has always been a strong ministry, and we continue this tradition while striving to support the church mission.”

Until 2005, Celia was Music Minister for almost 15 years. Prior to that, she was Holy Trinity's Parish Worker with Youth and Music, Music Director at Philadelphia Lutheran Church (Granite Falls), a music teacher with Catawba County and Hickory City Schools, and a voice teacher at CVCC. Currently, she is also a private vocal and piano instructor. She graduated from Pfeiffer University with an AB in Music Education and received a Master's degree in Music Education from Converse College. An assistant director and charter member of Hickory Choral Society, Celia enjoys gardening, reading, and cooking. Her husband, John, is also an active member of Holy Trinity and its music program. They have two grown daughters.
